That’s right, for this weekend only, PlayStation 4 players will get an exclusive hands-on experience with the much-anticipated upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game.
Only available on PS4 this weekend, the alpha showcases a new 2v2 mode called ‘Gunfight’, and runs from today – the 23rd – up until Sunday the 25th; so, grab a buddy, a cold brewski and suit up for a sweaty battle of wits.
Now, the download file is just under 37gb, so get in early, and if you’re having trouble locating it on the PlayStation Store, simply search modern warfare alpha, or under ‘Free to Play’, scroll over to ‘All Games’ and it’ll be the first one.
‘Gunfight’ has you and a teammate go up against another duo in short, sharp rounds, trying to fight your way to victory in this tight, fast-paced and innovative new concept from game developer Activision and Infinity Ward.
You can check out some recent gameplay footage from Youtuber, jackfrags playing Gunfight while he was over at Gamescon in Germany. It’s set in a darkly lit and super moody environment, but really showcases the grittiness and how exciting this new game mode will be for the franchise.
Finally, this alpha is just a tiny little taste of what’s to come, with the beta for those who pre-ordered the game on PS4 getting early access from the 12th September and other platforms a week later from the 19th. The open beta will then be available from the 14th for PS4 and 21st for Xbox One and PC players.
During the beta’s availability, there will be a period of cross-platform testing, and with all these little morsels of gameplay being dropped like a scene from Hansel and Gretel, the launch on October 25 now seems closer than ever.
